Idaho 13 project targeted for completion by Oct. 14
LEWISTON - A pavement rehabilitation project on Idaho Highway 13 from Howard Creek to Kooskia should be completed by Oct. 14 after the contractor, Poe Asphalt Paving, Inc., of Lewiston, changed its rock sources, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Changing rock sources delayed the initial completion date. Poe is crushing rock and putting a mix design together for testing and acceptance by ITD. Once that is done, later this month, the contractor will begin paving the six-mile section, between mileposts 19 and 25.
Construction began in June on the $2 million project. Work consists of widening the shoulders, in-place recycling of the existing pavement and adding a new surface. The project also includes the addition of two drainage culverts, a gabion wall and guardrail installation.
A companion project, or phase 2, is scheduled to begin this fall from Howard Creek to the South Fork Clearwater Bridge, between mileposts 11 and 19. The project will include widening, in-place recycling and a new surface. Work to reduce falling rock in the corridor will be completed this fall, with the remaining work targeted for completion next summer.
Poe is the contractor for the $2.6 million companion project.
