Delays expected on Idaho 75 north of Stanley next week
STANLEY - Girders for a new bridge over the Salmon River near Slate Creek will be set beginning Monday (Sept. 20) resulting in periodic traffic delays on Idaho 75, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Traffic delays will continue for about a week as crews set the steel girders.
Crews will position a crane on the existing bridge to place the center-span girders on the new 453-foot structure. The new bridge is being constructed next to the existing structure. The crane will lift the girders off trucks parked on the old bridge
After each girder is set and the trucks move, traffic will be allowed to cross the river. Traffic delays are expected to take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sept. 24.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane through the construction area. Drivers are urged to use caution and watch for flaggers.
The project is located about 24 miles east of Stanley and 32 miles west of Challis at milepost 213. The existing 314-foot bridge, built in 1934, is showing signs of deterioration. Construction of the new bridge and demolition of the existing structure will take two seasons to complete.
Work began in May. Transition of traffic onto the new bridge is expected by July 2011, and demolition of the old bridge should be complete by September 2011.
Wadsworth Brothers Construction of Draper, Utah, is the contractor for the $4.9 million project.
