Public meetings scheduled in north-central Idaho on highway improvements
BOISE - Public meetings are scheduled the week of Sept. 27 to
gather comment on what kinds of highway improvements should be made in
north-central Idaho, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The meetings are part of corridor studies being
done that will help guide the management of highways in that region of Idaho
during the next 10 years. Potential improvements could include new passing and
turning lanes, intersection upgrades, bicycle lanes and stabilizing hillsides
to reduce rockfall.
Routes being studied are U.S. 95 from Adams County to
Benewah County, Idaho 8 from the Washington state line to Troy, U.S. 12 from
Lewiston to the Clearwater Forest boundary (east of Kooskia), and the
low-volume/narrow roads of Idaho 3, Idaho 6, Idaho 7, Idaho 8, Idaho 9, Idaho
11, Idaho 13, Idaho 14, Idaho 62, Idaho 64, Idaho 66, Idaho 99, Idaho 128 and
Idaho 162.
Those interested in attending the meetings may stop in
any time between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Transportation department staff members
will be available to answer questions. Comments received from these meetings
will be added to previous comments and will be used to finalize a list of
recommended improvements to include in the draft plan for each corridor. Draft
plans will be available for review and comment by the public later this fall,
before being finalized this winter.
