Construction to reduce lanes on U.S. 20 overpass in Idaho Falls next week
RIGBY ‑ Construction will reduce lanes on the Science Center Drive overpass on U.S. 20 in Idaho Falls as early as Monday (Oct. 4), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The highway will be reduced to a single lane in the westbound lanes for resurfacing.
The speed limit will be lowered to 35 miles per hour for most of the work and 25 miles per hour for concrete placement and curing. The 25‑mile-per-hour speed limit reduction will continue up to a week for the overpass and will be enforced 24 hours a day.
Lower speeds help minimize the damaging effect of traffic jarring the deck during concrete cure time.
Commercial vehicles will be restricted to 12 feet wide and to legal weights.
As part of the project, crews have already cleaned and repainted portions of the bridge beams.
Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment. Construction on the overpass is scheduled for completion Oct. 29.
