I-84 will be closed in Nampa and Meridian on Friday, Saturday nights (Oct. 22-23)
MERIDIAN - Interstate 84 will be closed between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges Friday and Saturday nights (Oct. 22 and 23), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The closures are part of a month-long process to disassemble the 200-foot wood-and-steel structure that supported the Ten Mile Interchange during initial construction.
Flaggers will direct motorists through a detour route between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. both nights. A detour map is posted at www.itd.idaho.gov and ITD's Facebook site.
Westbound motorists will leave I-84 at the Meridian Interchange and take Main Street to Franklin Road to Idaho Center Boulevard, where they will re-enter I-84 at the Garrity Interchange.
Eastbound motorists will leave I-84 at the Garrity Interchange and take Idaho Center Boulevard to Franklin Road to Main Street, where they will re-enter I-84 at the Meridian Interchange.
I-84 will be restricted to one lane at night through Thursday (Oct. 21). Restrictions will continue until the falsework has been removed.
The new Ten Mile Interchange is scheduled to open in summer 2011. When complete, it is expected to reduce congestion at the Meridian and Garrity interchanges and local roads in west Meridian.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
