Transportation issues at forefront of North Idaho legislative tour
COEUR d'ALENE -
The North Idaho Chamber of Commerce (NICC) will host a
legislative tour for all newly elected Idaho legislators and executive officers
Saturday through Tuesday (Nov. 6-9) at the
Coeur d'Alene Inn on Appleway.
One of the major focus areas of this year's tour will be
transportation issues facing Idaho. Lt. Gov. Brad Little and
Idaho Transportation Department Director Brian Ness who will speak to legislators and
state officials at the following times:
Monday, Nov. 8

Coeur d'Alene Inn on Appleway
Lt. Gov. Brad Little, chairman of the Governor's
Task Force on Modernizing Transportation Funding, will provide an update on the
task force's work, set to be completed in December prior to the start of the
legislative session. The task force is examining traditional and
non-traditional ways Idaho can fund its transportation needs now and in the
future.
Noon Luncheon
Presentation, Intermountain Community Bank Financial Center, Sandpoint (located at 5th and Church)
Brian Ness, ITD director, will
provide an overview and details of a plan to significantly realign the
organizational structure of the transportation department. The decision
to realign the department came after nine months of meeting with employees,
elected officials and customers, and assessing how the department operates.
The NICC was founded in 1918 and comprises the eleven
northern counties of Idaho's Panhandle.
The NICC promotes all phases of economic development in
North Idaho. The biennial legislative tour is designed to acquaint
legislators from throughout Idaho with the northern region of the state.
For many legislators, it will be their first visit to North Idaho.
The tour is organized by and funded through the NICC.
