Travelers between Boise and Moscow urged to check 511 before leaving
BOISE -- The Idaho Transportation Department encourages motorists traveling between the Boise area and Moscow this weekend to check the 511 Traveler Services system before leaving home.
The weather forecast for Friday in western Idaho -- through Riggins, Grangeville, Lewiston and Moscow -- suggests a possibility of rain and low temperatures below freezing. As a result, highways could be slick, especially in shaded areas, on bridges and curves of U.S. 95 and Idaho 55.
Motorists can call the 511 phone system toll-free from anywhere in Idaho, or can visit the website, 511.idaho.gov, to receive reports on the latest highway and weather conditions.
A mobile web application also is available for handheld devices, but drivers are urged to access that information or make cell phone calls only after pulling off the highway in safe locations.
Reports on the 511 Traveler Services system are updated twice daily on weekdays and once on weekends, or more frequently if as conditions change significantly. The system includes reports on highway and weather conditions, still photographs of highways and information on mountain passes.
