Speed limit near school dropped to 25 mph farther west per Middleton's request
BOISE - The speed limit on a section of Idaho 44 between Eaton and Cemetery roads west of Middleton High School will be reduced to 25 mph in an effort by the city to enhance pedestrian safety in the corridor, which is often used by students to get to the school, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The speed limit transitions from 55 mph to 25 mph between Hartley Lane and Cemetery Road. The change, which will be posted on Tuesday (Nov. 16), moves the start of the 25 mph speed zone about one-third mile farther away from the school, to the western boundary of Middleton's city limits at Eaton Road, which is the entrance to Nottingham Greens subdivision.

The speed zone change is in accordance with the city of Middleton's action. The Middleton City Council voted on Oct. 6 to adjust the current speed zone, extending the 25 mph speed zone west to Eaton Road.

When a segment of state highway passes through a city or town, as in this case, Idaho Code gives authority for those municipalities to set the speed limit. Middleton's city council voted to adopt the reduced speed limit, and ITD was provided with the signed official meeting minutes Thursday (Nov. 4).

The signed minutes are required to complete the action.
