Avalanche-prone stretch of Idaho 21 to close tonight
BOISE - Idaho 21 will close today (Monday, Nov. 22) at 5 p.m. between Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit as an avalanche precaution. The 12-mile stretch of highway was closed only a few times last year because of avalanche hazards.
ITD avalanche specialists report 25 inches of snow on the ground in the region. With a winter storm forecast for more snow tonight, the avalanche hazard is expected to rise, requiring a road closure for travelers' safety.
The road could re-open by mid-day Tuesday, unless snowy conditions continue.
