Drivers need to be aware of deer and elk on Idaho 21
BOISE - Drivers are reminded to be aware of the strong possibility of encountering migrating deer and elk on Idaho 21 between Boise and Idaho City. Extreme weather conditions recently have dumped a significant amount of snow in the higher elevations of the Boise mountains, forcing foraging mule deer and elk lower in search of food.

Transportation and wildlife managers are concerned that because the weather has changed so quickly and been so extreme, a mass migration may occur and a high concentration of deer and elk may suddenly be seen along this portion of Idaho 21.

A particular area of concern is the portion of Idaho 21 located within the Boise River Wildlife Management Area and the Barber Pool Conservation Area. As the area is well known for having many wildlife/vehicle collisions, the Idaho Transportation Department cautions motorists to slow down and be attentive when traveling this corridor, for their own safety and the safety of the animals.
