New Rainey Creek Bridge in Swan Valley to open Monday afternoon (Dec. 13)
RIGBY ‑ The new Rainey Creek Bridge in Swan Valley will open Monday afternoon (Dec. 13), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews are finalizing construction and cleanup in preparation for opening the bridge Monday at 1 p.m. Structural work and road approaches are complete, with bridge surfaces, road markings and shoulder seeding to be finished in the spring. Temporary lane restrictions or closures may be needed in the spring to complete the work.
The new concrete bridge on Idaho 31 is 51 feet long and 50 feet wide, with steel‑reinforced substructure, superstructure and deck. Traffic has been detoured around the bridge on Ranger Station Road east of Idaho 31, which has been closed since Sept. 7 when the project began.
The new bridge is about 100 yards north of Idaho 31's junction with U.S. 26 in Swan Valley.
The contractor for the $500,000 project is Eagle Rock Timber Inc., of Idaho Falls, which removed the old bridge, constructed the new one and reconstructed the roadway on both ends of the bridge. Built in 1936, the old bridge was nearly 75 years old.
