UPDATE: Idaho 3 near Rose Lake to close Wednesday due to culvert failure at Rose Creek
UPDATE: ITD will keep the highway open (one-lane, one-way) through the night and won't close the road until the contractor has assembled everything on-site sometime tomorrow morning. Then the closure will last a couple of days.
COEUR D'ALENE - A culvert running underneath Idaho 3 near
Rose Lake (Milepost 113.8) has collapsed, forcing the closure of the highway tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 29), the
Idaho Transportation Department announced.
High run-off and flooding in the area caused the culvert to collapse,
washing out the roadway.
A new culvert will be installed and the roadway
repaired. This will necessitate the closure
of the highway for several days while repairs are made to the roadway
and a new culvert is installed.
Motorists are being advised to find alternate routes. Commercial truck traffic will be re-routed
from Interstate 90 to U.S. 95 and Idaho 5.
Motorists
are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for
information on the state highway or interstate system. The 5-1-1 system is updated 4-5 times each
day, or as needed during emergency conditions, such as the road closure on
Idaho 3.
