Delays on I-84 near Twin Falls Tuesday for rock blasting
SHOSHONE - Drivers can expect delays on Interstate 84 east of Jerome on Tuesday (Jan. 18) while rock blasting occurs near the roadway, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
For the safety of the traveling public on I-84, a traffic slow-down between the U.S. 93 junction (Exit 173) and the Idaho 50 junction (Exit 182) has been permitted. When crews are prepared for the blast, traffic in both directions will be slowed by pilot vehicles and will remain at a slow speed until after the detonation. The blast is expected to take place between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Traffic will not come to a complete stop unless debris from the blast reaches the roadway.
After the blast - and after a safe roadway is assured - the pilot vehicles will act as pace cars and return traffic back to highway speeds before exiting at either end of the interstate section. Crews will be on hand to clear the roadway of debris if needed.
Seubert Excavators Inc., of Cottonwood, is the contractor responsible for the blasting operation taking place in a rock quarry near milepost 176.
