Idaho 3 speed restriction for heavy vehicles begins Thursday (Jan. 20)
COEUR D'ALENE -- A speed restriction for heavy vehicles will be put in place on Idaho 3 beginning Thursday (Jan. 20) due to pavement damage caused by winter storm freeze/thaw cycles.
The speed restriction will be in effect on Idaho 3 from Hells Gulch (milepost 95.12) to the Rose Lake Interchange on Interstate 90 (milepost 117.68).
Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight of 10,000 lbs. or more will be restricted to 30 mph beginning Thursday morning.
Some asphalt surfaces along this stretch of highway are showing signs of stress because of freezing and thawing of the road base.
The restriction will be in place until further notice.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system. The 5-1-1 system is updated 4-5 times each day, or as needed during emergency conditions, such as the road closure on Idaho 3.
