Three nights of I-84 detours will begin in Boise on Tuesday (Feb. 1)
BOISE - Heading west on I-84 through Boise next week? The Idaho Transportation Department is planning three overnight detours beginning Tuesday between the Broadway and Orchard interchanges.

The detours will be in place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights (Feb. 1-3) while new overhead sign structures are installed.

One lane of westbound I-84 will be open at all times, but various westbound ramps will be closed for motorists getting on or off the interstate.

- On Tuesday night (Feb. 1), motorists will not be able to exit westbound I-84 at Vista Avenue (the Boise Airport).

- On Wednesday night (Feb. 2), westbound motorists will not be able to exit westbound I-84 at Vista Avenue or enter westbound I-84 at Broadway.

- On Thursday night (Feb. 3), westbound motorists will not be able to enter westbound I-84 at Orchard.

Traffic will be directed each night through a detour route south of I-84. The detour route will go to the airport as well as roads where motorists can re-enter I-84. Maps of the detours all three nights are available through the ITD Facebook page here.

The closures are weather-dependent, so travelers are encouraged to check 511.Idaho.gov or dial 5-1-1 for updated information.

The detours are part of a project to widen I-84 to four lanes in both directions between Cole/Overland and Broadway. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2011.
