Idaho 51 pavement repair project expected to begin this summer
BOISE - About 21 miles of Idaho 51 will be repaired in a project early this summer, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The 13-mile stretch from Grasmere to milepost 47
will be overlayed with about two inches of new pavement, while the 8-mile piece
from milepost 47 to Broken Wagon Flat Road will receive that same amount of new pavement and also will be resurfaced using the cold in-place recycling
method.
In the cold in-place method, crews
will break up a layer of old pavement and add additional oil to restore
flexibility. The road material is then shaped and compacted,
and overlayed with a top layer of new pavement. This is primarily used on
medium- or low-volume roads.

The work is
expected to last about two months. Contractors' bids on the project are
expected in March 2011.
