Trio of Idaho 55 projects slated for construction in spring and summer

BOISE - Three projects are expected to begin this spring and summer on Idaho 55 in Boise and Valley counties, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Two projects will be constructed under one contract:

Idaho 55, Payette River Bridge to milepost 80.636, Boise County: This is a pavement preservation project involving 14.5 miles of roadway (milepost 66.1 to 80.6) just north of Horseshoe Bend. About 1.8 inches of new pavement will be applied in a thin-lift overlay and plant-mix paving procedure. Construction is anticipated in spring or summer of 2011.

Idaho 55, South Fork Payette River Bridge, Boise County: This is a bridge preservation project at Banks. The bridge deck will receive a silica fume treatment to prevent corrosion and penetration by water and salts. Cracking and splitting will be repaired on the bridge rail, which will also be repainted. Construction on the bridge, at milepost 78.7, will be done prior to the Memorial Day holiday. Contractors' bids are expected to be opened March 1.

Later this summer, the following project is expected to begin as well:

Idaho 55, Cascade North City Limits to Donnelly, Valley County: This is a thin-lift overlay pavement preservation project from about milepost 116 to 131. Nearly two inches of new asphalt will be applied to the existing surface.

Valley Paving & Asphalt Inc., of Cottonwood, is the contractor on this $2 million project.
