Weekend detour will delay eastbound I-84 traffic between Cole, Broadway interchanges
BOISE - A weekend-long detour and speed reduction will affect drivers entering and exiting Interstate 84 at Orchard, Vista or Broadway next weekend (March 4-7). The Idaho Transportation Department will be moving eastbound traffic onto new pavement and preparing the interstate for the next stage of construction.

The detour will begin at 10 p.m. Friday (March 4) and end at 5 a.m. Monday (March 7).

During the detour, eastbound traffic must exit early to access the Orchard, Vista or Broadway ramps. Eastbound through traffic will not have access to the ramps.

A detour route to each interchange will begin after the Cole/Overland Interchange.

"Local travelers might benefit by finding a route around eastbound I-84 between Cole and Broadway," said ITD Project Engineer Dana Weiss. "If you use the interstate to access Orchard, Vista or Broadway, remember to keep right near Cole/Overland instead of waiting until you get closer to these exits. Missing the detour route could add 15-20 minutes to a typical trip."

The speed limit will be 55 mph for eastbound through traffic and 35 mph for the detour route. Both routes may be reduced to one lane. Expect some delays.

Flaggers will direct detour traffic off and back onto eastbound I-84 at the Orchard and Broadway interchanges.

All work is weather dependent.

The old eastbound lanes will be reconstructed over the spring and summer. Motorists can expect ongoing traffic changes and lane restrictions in March.

When the project is complete this summer, I-84 will be eight lanes wide between the Cole and Broadway interchanges.

Concrete Placing Company, Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $35.9 million project.
