Ten Mile Road slated to re-open in March between Franklin and Overland in Meridian; interchange opens in summer
The opening date is slated for mid-March but will depend on
good weather.
ITD closed the road in December 2009 to replace the old
overpass with a full interchange. Interchange construction will continue until
early summer, but motorists will be able to travel across Ten
Mile Road at 25 mph. More than 7,000 vehicles travel north and south on Ten Mile Road in the area each day.
"Our priority is to restore traffic on Ten Mile Road as
quickly as possible," said ITD Resident Engineer Jeff Morf. "The road closure
reduced the overall construction timeframe by about one year, but we still have
work to do."
The road-opening date will be posted at itd.idaho.gov and
released to local media. ITD is coordinating the schedule with the Ada County
Highway District. ACHD will wait for warmer weather before paving Ten Mile Road
between the Ridenbaugh Canal and Overland Road south of I-84.
The work between Ridenbaugh and Overland is a separate
project under ACHD's jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, the Ada County Sheriff and Meridian Police will
issue tickets to motorists who do not observe construction signs.
The I-84, Ten Mile Interchange will include on- and
off-ramps to I-84 and additional lanes on Ten Mile Road. When complete this
summer, it is expected to reduce traffic at the Meridian and Garrity
interchanges.
Idaho Sand & Gravel is the contractor for the $33.8
million project.
The Idaho Transportation Department
