Summer project on I-84 eastbound lanes east of Micron will correct pavement deficiencies
BOISE - A
summer project on I-84's eastbound lanes, east of Micron across the Ada/Elmore
County Line, will correct severe pavement deficiencies in that stretch, the
Idaho Transportation Department announced. The project is expected to last three to four
months.
The pavement in that stretch was first constructed in 1958. It received an overlay in 1961, another overlay in 1980, and a seal coat in 1986. ITD maintenance forces did some blade patching (maintenance technique for asphalt surface) last fall to extend the roadway use until a permanent fix could be applied in this project.
Signs
were installed last fall asking trucks to move left to preserve the pavement in
the right-hand lanes.
A concrete overlay will be applied beginning
at milepost 70, which is about seven miles east of the Blacks Creek Rest Area
on I-84, and extending east to milepost 82, about eight miles east of the Simco
Road junction with the freeway. About two
inches of the existing surface will be milled off, followed by 10 inches of new
concrete.

The project will require
crossovers and two-way traffic on the westbound lanes during the work.
The
contractors' bids on the project are expected to be opened this spring, with
construction following about a month later if weather allows.
