Alternate Route, Rock Creek project nears completion
TWIN FALLS - Construction crews have only minor projects to finish as work on the U.S. 93 Twin Falls Alternate Route nears completion, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Since opening the highway in December, crews removed two large culverts that carried Rock Creek through the canyon for more than 30 years. All work in the canyon was completed recently, including restoration of the Rock Creek channel, shaping the canyon floor and planting native vegetation below the new Rock Creek bridge.

The public is asked to stay out of the restoration area below the bridge to allow the seeding and plantings to become established and mature.

Crews also are working beyond Rock Creek, installing survey monuments and cleaning up the construction zone. Among the final items yet to be completed are  installation of additional roadway signs and survey markers as well as more seeding within the Rock Creek restoration area.

The 5.5-mile Alternate Route Stage II project to connect the U.S. 93/U.S. 30 junction to north Twin Falls began in September 2009.

W.W. Clyde Inc. of Springville, Utah, was the contractor for the $26.6 million project and the $2.3 million flyover addition.
