Rehabilitation of U.S. 93/I-84 junction to begin next week
JEROME - Drivers will experience delays for the next several months on a major commuter route in the Jerome and Twin Falls areas as a result of highway construction at the U.S. 93/Interstate 84 junction. Work is expected to begin on Monday (April 4), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The project is expected to be completed in October.

Crews will begin to reconstruct and widen nearly two miles of U.S. 93, building the most-traveled sections in concrete, and extending the four lanes farther north. The reconstructed highway will extend from south of I-84 to the north end of the Crossroads Ranch development. The project will include an overlay on the I-84 eastbound on/off ramps and through lanes near the interchange.

The project does not include expansion near the I-84 junction, but right turn lanes will be added at three Crossroads Ranch access points, and westbound I-84 for southbound traffic. A center turn lane will be included from about the Flying J access north to the end of the four-lane section.

The highway will be limited to one lane of travel in each direction through most of the construction. The business access will remain open, but there will be partial intersection closures with shared or changing access points.

Knife River Corporation Northwest of Boise is the contractor for the $5.2 million rehabilitation project.
