April 6 meeting scheduled for Chubbuck Interchange, I-15/I-86 Corridor Study
BOISE -
The Idaho Transportation Department will conduct a public
meeting Wednesday, April 6, on a project to replace the Chubbuck Interchange
and a corridor plan for Interstates 15 and 86.
The meeting will be in an open house format that allows people to drop by any time between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chubbuck City Hall,
5160 Yellowstone Avenue. Displays will provide information on the
corridor study and interchange project. ITD staff will be available to answer
questions.
The department proposes to replace the existing interchange
with a diverging diamond interchange. The new interchange would improve driving
conditions by reducing congestion and vehicle crashes. Using a new diverging diamond configuration also would not require the acquisition of additional land.
Construction is anticipated to start in 2013, and take two construction seasons to complete. Access to Yellowstone Avenue will be maintained during the work.
The I-15/I-86 Corridor Study creates a 20-year plan that
guides the future management of and potential improvements to those highways.
Input from the public helps the transportation department prioritize
improvements.
