Contractor readies for construction on U.S. 95 Sand Creek Byway project in Sandpoint
COEUR d'ALENE - Winter is giving way to spring, and work on the Sand Creek Byway project in Sandpoint soon will be kicking into high gear. Much of the project has been in winter shutdown, but construction activities will be allowed to resume after April 15, with work focused on the south end of the project.

Construction will create ongoing traffic impacts throughout the spring and summer, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The schedule for the next two weeks is:

Week of April 11-16

The contractor will be setting up traffic control, removing guardrail and cutting through the asphalt road surface at the south end of the project.  Crews will work Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Week of April 18-22

Excavation will begin to widen the road for installation of new guardrail north of the Long Bridge. Motorists can expect ongoing, intermittent delays throughout the summer as the new construction is tied into existing U.S. 95.

Weekly informational meetings will be held each Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Transportation Information Office in downtown Sandpoint (202 N. 2nd), beginning May 5.

The contractor for this $98 million project is Parsons RCI, of Sumner, Wash.  The project is expected to be complete by fall 2012.

Questions? Visit us online at itd.idaho.gov, or follow ITD on Twitter (IdahoITD) or Facebook. Motorists are asked to slow down in construction zones and pay attention to the road. Safety -  for drivers and workers -  is our top priority.
