Test blasting will close Washington Street for short time Thursday
TWIN FALLS -- A small rock blast will interrupt traffic briefly on Washington Street Thursday (April 14) as excavation begins for a storm drain, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Washington Street will be closed between Caswell and Filer in both directions beginning at about 10 a.m. for a test blast. The closure is expected to last five minutes or less. Drivers are asked to find an alternate route if possible.

The blast is the first of several to create a trench about 20 feet deep for the 36-inch storm drain pipe. The pipe will connect to an underground drain tunnel north of Filer Avenue. Future blasts have not been scheduled.

The southbound outside lane will remain closed during working hours for the next week as crews form and pour concrete for a sidewalk. Drivers also should be prepared for lane closures near the blast zone.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling through the construction zone, watch for changing lane alignments and uneven pavement between Filer and Falls avenues.
