Construction update for U.S. 95 Sand Creek Byway project in Sandpoint
COEUR D'ALENE - After a winter-long shutdown, all construction activities on the Sand Creek Byway project will be gearing up after today (Friday, April 15), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The contractor will work five days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional Saturday work.

The third year of construction will be a time of transition for the project, as the newly constructed areas are connected to the existing highway. Current lane configurations at the south end of the project will remain in place through the end of May.

Bridge Street will be reduced to one lane from April 20 to July 4. The contractor will be installing a new decorative concrete roadway surface that will tie into the bike trail and parking area at the old Lakeside Inn site.

At the north end of the project, work will continue to realign the highway in preparation for the permanent installation of a new traffic signal at the Wye intersection. A new traffic revision will begin April 25.

Construction will result in ongoing traffic impacts this spring and summer. Flaggers will be used throughout the project area to guide traffic through the work zones.

Weekly informational meetings will be held each Thursday beginning May 5 at 11 a.m. at the Transportation Information Office in downtown Sandpoint (202 N. 2nd).

The contractor for this $98 million project is Parsons RCI, of Sumner, Wash. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2012.
