I-84 resurfacing west of Wendell begins Monday
WENDELL - A summer-long pavement resurfacing project on Interstate 84 between Tuttle and Wendell is expected to begin on Monday (April 18), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
On Monday, crews will begin to construct the median cross-over lanes at each end of the eight-mile project. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the median work near mileposts 149 and 158. This work is expected to take about two weeks.
Major construction is expected to begin during the first week of May and all traffic will be shifted onto the westbound lanes in a two-lane, two-way configuration. A reduced speed limit of 65 mph and an 18-foot width restriction will be in effect for the first stage of construction. The project is expected to be completed by September.
The roadway rehabilitation and resurfacing project will remove cracking, rutting and potholes, restore surface smoothness and strengthen the roadway surface to extend the life of this section of the interstate. Crews will be repaving the on- and off-ramps at both Wendell interchanges (Exits 155 and 157).
The West Wendell/Hagerman Road exit will have closures to on- and off-ramps during construction. Area residents and travelers are asked to use the Idaho 46/South Wendell exit at milepost 157 to avoid closures. The Hagerman Road overpass will remain open to through traffic during construction.
Western Construction Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $11.3 million paving project.
