Construction on U.S. 20 between south St. Anthony and Twin Groves to start Monday (May 2)
RIGBY ‑ Construction on U.S. 20 between south St. Anthony and Twin Groves will begin Monday (May 2), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will resurface six miles of U.S. 20 between the south St. Anthony exit 344 and Twin Groves (milepost 350).
In preparation for the resurfacing project, workers replaced planking on the railroad crossing near exit 344 earlier this month.
The project will involve a type of highway construction called "crack and seat," which entails breaking up and settling the existing concrete roadway with a guillotine‑like machine and then overlaying the road with two layers of plant mix, which is asphalt and crushed rock blended together.
During construction, motorists can expect delays. Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. The speed limit in work areas will be reduced to 55 mph. Drivers should anticipate changing driving conditions, such as merging traffic, construction vehicles, highway workers and uneven surfaces.
Crews will start at the south St. Anthony exit 344 on northbound U.S. 20 and work north. The project is scheduled for completion in July.
The transportation department awarded HK Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls, the $4 million contract.
When completed, the six‑mile stretch of U.S. 20 will offer a refurbished, strengthened roadway and a smoother ride for motorists.

The transportation department also will resurface U.S. 20 between the north Rexburg Interchange and south St. Anthony exit 344 starting in mid-July.
