Construction on I-15 between Roberts and Sage Junction starts Monday (May 9)
RIGBY ‑ Resurfacing on an 8.5‑mile stretch of Interstate 15 between Roberts and Sage Junction starts Monday (May 9), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Work is expected to be completed by July.

Crews will seal cracks, overlay and seal coat I‑15 between the Roberts Interchange and the Sage Junction Interchange (mileposts 135 and 144). Workers also will repair a frost heave on the roadway south of the Roberts Interchange near milepost 143.

In addition, crews will repair a frost heave on southbound lanes near the Sage Junction interchange. Workers will remove subgrade material and install drains under the highway. The transportation department hopes this will remedy a recurring problem each spring as moisture in and under the roadway freezes, expands and pushes up pavement, creating bumps.

Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and the speed limit will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. Resurfacing and repairs are designed to extend the life of the roadway and to improve the riding surface for motorists.

Commercial vehicles will be restricted to 14 feet in width.

Drivers should obey all traffic signs and anticipate merging traffic, construction workers and equipment.

HK Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls, is the contractor on this $3.46 million project.

The Idaho State Police reminds motorists that fines double for moving violations in work zones.
