Crews begin rock slope investigation near Sunbeam
STANLEY - Motorists traveling on Idaho 75 between Stanley and Challis should expect delays throughout June as contractors inspect the route for potential hazardous rock slides, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The goal is to reduce the risk of falling rocks and to ensure safety along the route.
Beginning Wednesday (June 1), geologists will study several areas above the roadway that have potential for major rock fall between Sunbeam and Torreys Hole boat launching area. The work should provide the necessary data to develop a project that will improve and stabilize the rock slope to reduce rock fall hazards.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane during working hours. Crews will be on site Mondays through Saturdays each week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers should watch for flaggers and be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes as the geologists complete the study.
Cornforth Consultants of Portland is doing the analysis through a contract with the Federal Highway Administration's Western Federal Lands Highway Division.
