Buckle up this Memorial Day weekend

BOISE - Start your engines. Memorial Day weekend signals a beginning to the busy summer driving season so the Idaho Transportation Department reminds everyone to travel safely and always wear a seat belt when in a car or truck.

ITD is supporting law enforcement agencies statewide in education and enforcement efforts reminding all Idahoans to buckle up to protect lives, reduce serious injury and help keep families whole.

"Wearing your seat belt costs nothing and yet it's the single most effective traffic safety device ever invented," said Lisa Losness, with ITD's Office of Highway Safety. "Failing to wear a seat belt puts you and your passengers at risk for serious injury or death."

Last year, no lives were lost on an Idaho highway during the holiday weekend.

Idaho's seat belt education and enforcement campaign will be under way through June 7.
