U.S. 93 paving project in Jerome County begins Wednesday

JEROME – A full-width asphalt overlay on U.S. 93 for about eight miles in Jerome County is expected to start on Wednesday (June 8), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

On Wednesday, the contractor will mill a short section of asphalt in preparation for a paving test strip to take place on Thursday. Pending an approved asphalt test strip, milling and paving throughout the entire project will begin the week of June 13 and last about two weeks.

The overlay project is will fix rutting and potholes, as well as restore surface smoothness from about the Idaho 25 junction north through the 700 North Road intersection. Drivers are asked to slow down and use caution on the road after milling as the grooved surface is uneven.

Drivers are urged to be careful when approaching the work zone and watch for flaggers. A pilot car will be used while crews are present to lead traffic around the milling and paving from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. There will be a reduced speed limit of 45 mph through the work zone during non-working hours.

Western Construction Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $1.8 million pavement preservation project.
