Bridge replacement project to begin June 20 on U.S. 95 south of Culdesac
LEWISTON - The replacement of seven bridges on U.S. 95 south of Culdesac is scheduled to begin June 20, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Construction of all seven bridges is expected to be complete in the summer of 2013.
Existing multi-span structures will be replaced with wider, simple span bridges between mileposts 286 and 289. The highway approaches will be raised at three bridge locations to create more space between the bottom of the girders and the high water lines.
Traffic will be limited to two lanes of about nine feet each over the bridges. The reduced width will accommodate passenger vehicles traveling in both directions, but will require one-way travel for trucks. Motorists will need to be especially cautious when approaching the bridge and yield to oncoming truck traffic before continuing.
The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph throughout the project, with a 35 mph limit across the bridges. Motorists should expect intermittent delays in the construction zone.
Work will be done on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wadsworth Brothers, of Draper, Utah, is the contractor for the combined $8.9 million project.
