Eastbound I-84 lane closure beginning Sunday morning under Ten Mile accelerated to last one month or less, not three
MERIDIAN - The Idaho Transportation Department announced today it would accelerate the summer paving schedule on I-84 under the new Ten Mile Interchange, thereby reducing the duration of the restrictions to the driving public. The outside lane of eastbound I-84 will close early Sunday morning (June 19) and re-open by the July 4 holiday.

The closure will affect a half-mile stretch under the interchange. Traffic will merge from three lanes to two lanes after the eastbound off-ramp just west of the interchange.

The lane must be closed while the contractor removes temporary asphalt and paves with permanent concrete. ITD and the contractor negotiated to reduce that closure time from three months down
to less than a month.

"Much of the work was completed this spring with all three lanes open, thanks to careful coordination between ITD and the project contractor," said project manager Jeff Morf.

Morf said the department would bring in additional equipment for the paving, accelerating the remaining schedule and reducing the impact the traveling public.

Westbound I-84 will be paved in July, also requiring a lane to be restricted.

The new I-84, Ten Mile Interchange opened to traffic on May 25. Paving the interstate is the last major part of construction. The $33.8 million project is on schedule for a summer completion.

Idaho Sand & Gravel, Co. is the contractor.
