Intermittent closures planned until Dec. 1 for road work at Craters of the Moon
RIGBY - Motorists traveling through the Craters of the Moon National Monument on U.S. 20/26/93 west of Arco can expect intermittent 15-minute closures Mondays through Thursdays until Dec. 1, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The closures help to ensure the safety of the traveling public while Western Construction blasts rock outcroppings in preparation for roadwork next summer. The existing highway surface won't be disturbed by the blasting.

No local detours around the project site are available.

Blasting will be suspended for the winter by Dec. 1 and resume after April 1. Construction will continue through the summer of 2006. The roadway between mileposts 224 and 226 will be reconstructed to improve sight distance. From milepost 226 to 233, the roadway will be rehabilitated. All work will be done within the existing right of way.
