Proposed widening project on U.S. 89 to be discussed Thursday in Paris

POCATELLO - Idaho Transportation Department staff members will explain a proposed widening project between North Beach and St. Charles Canyon roads in Bear Lake County when county commissioners meet Thursday in Paris.

The public presentation will be at 6 p.m. in the boardroom of School Dist #33 during the Bear Lake County Commission’s regular meeting. Representatives of the project contractor, Horrocks Engineers of Boise, will attend the meeting and be available to answer questions.

Widening of U.S. 89 to accommodate a center turn lane between North Beach Road and Minnetonka Cave Road (milepost 2.6-2.8) is planned as part of the project. Right and left turn bays will be added at the intersections of Fish Haven Canyon Road, North Beach Road and Minnetonka Cave Road.

The bridge crossing at St. Charles Creek will be widened or reconstructed to accommodate the highway widening.

The public is invited to attend the commission meeting to learn more about the project and ask questions of ITD and Horrocks representatives.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2012 or early 2013.
