Golf Course Road traffic signal installation begins next week
JEROME – Drivers will soon have a new reason to stop just north of the Perrine Bridge with the construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 93 and Golf Course Road. Installation is expected to begin following the Fourth of July holiday, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will be working primarily outside of the roadway during the early stages of construction, which will include constructing concrete foundations for the poles. Crews will be excavating and setting foundations for the traffic signal poles before installation of the poles begins. The new signal poles will be mounted in the median and light poles will be installed on the shoulders of the intersection.
The roadway will also be expanded to include an additional northbound turn lane onto Golf Course Road. Widening on Golf Course Road by the Jerome Highway District to allow for the additional turning traffic started this spring and is ready for paving to begin.
The scenic overlook parking area for the southbound traffic northwest of the Perrine Bridge will be closed for about a week beginning Wednesday (July 6) as crews trench for a future-use conduit being installed on the west side of U.S. 93.
Drivers should be prepared for lane restrictions and short delays during work hours throughout the construction zone. The contractor is expected to perform much of the work at night. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and be mindful of workers and equipment.
The intersection fulfilled a warrant based on traffic volumes and crash history.
Gordon Paving, Inc., of Twin Falls, is the contractor for the $985,000 federally funded project. Work is expected to be complete by early August.
