Paving project between Paul and Rupert begins Wednesday

RUPERT – A full-width asphalt overlay on Idaho 25 for about six miles through the city of Paul to the junction in Rupert is expected to start Wednesday (July 6), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The overlay project will fix rutting and pot holes as well as restore surface smoothness through Paul to the Idaho 25/Idaho 24 junction in Rupert.

On Wednesday, the contractor will begin a roadway milling operation through Paul and at select locations throughout the project. Following a density test strip, paving throughout the entire project will begin and last about three weeks. Once complete, the new surface will receive a chip seal coat.

Drivers are asked to slow down, watch for bumps, and use caution on the road after milling because the grooved surface is uneven. During the seal coat, drivers should slow down and increase their following distance to avoid thrown gravel and chipped windshields.

Drivers are urged to be careful when approaching the work zone and watch for flaggers. A pilot car will be used while crews are present to lead traffic around the milling and paving operations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on week days. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the work zone during non-work hours.

Idaho Sand and Gravel, of Jerome, is the contractor for the $2.7 million pavement preservation project. All work is expected to be complete by the end of August.
