UPDATE: Twin Falls to Burley paving project on I-84 turns to night work

TWIN FALLS – Major paving begins Saturday (July 16) on a pavement and bridge resurfacing project on Interstate 84 from the Idaho 50 junction near Twin Falls to the Burley Interchange, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Crews will perform the work at night over the next month.

Pre-paving activities are expected to take place overnight on Saturday and Sunday. The contractor is expected to begin the full-width asphalt overlay of I-84 westbound lanes near Burley on Monday night.

Crews will continue to mill and pave the westbound lanes until reaching the Idaho 50 junction (Exit 182). Paving the westbound lanes is expected to take about two weeks. The paving operation will switch direction and complete the overlay on the eastbound lanes beginning about the first of August.

Throughout the construction zone, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. A 45-mph speed limit will be in effect and a 14-foot width restriction will be enforced. The 26-mile overlay project will be broken into reduced sections during the paving operation. Drivers may encounter short-duration closures of the on- and off-ramps at the Idaho 50, Valley, Ridgeway and Kasota interchanges (Exits 182, 188, 194 and 201) as the paving operation passes each.

Crews have already completed bridge deck repairs at the Northside and Milner-Gooding Canal bridges east of the Ridgeway Road Interchange, and preliminary patchwork over the last few weeks in preparation for paving.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-August.

Knife River Corporation Northwest, of Boise, is the contractor for the $7.8 million repaving project.
