Bicycle ride fund-raiser will travel U.S. 26 near Idaho Falls

RIGBY - Cyclists raising funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will hit the road for a two-day bicycle ride July 16 and 17, and the Idaho Transportation Department is asking motorists to drive carefully through the route.

The benefit ride will start from downtown Idaho Falls and proceed to Palisades Reservoir along U.S. 26. The bicyclists will camp for the night and return along the same route the next day.

Signs will be posted to warn motorists of the bicyclists presence. Motorcyclists will accompany the ride to provide assistance.
U.S. 26 is two-lane highway for most of the route and does not have a designated bike path, said Matt Davison, ITD District 6 traffic engineer.

As a matter of safety, we ask motorists to be aware of the riders and to slow down as they pass the bikes, Davison said.
Riders are expected to be on the highway for up to eight hours each day.
