ITD crew finalizes signage for new U.S. 93 route, business loop

TWIN FALLS – Over the last few weeks, crews have been working throughout the city to complete directional and designation signage along Pole Line Road, Blue Lakes Boulevard and Addison Avenue that is associated with the realignment of U.S. 93. A few signs remain and are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

With the completion of major construction activities along the project known as Twin Falls Alternate Route, the official route of U.S. 93 shifted from Addison Avenue and Blue Lakes Boulevard to the new route that connects the U.S. 93/U.S. 30 junction near Filer to north Twin Falls. The old route through Twin Falls will be renamed as the U.S. 93 Business Loop.

Signage designating the new route was delayed until April, when the construction was officially accepted by the Idaho Transportation Board. A timeframe for installation of a directional sign for southbound U.S. 93 traffic between the Perrine Bridge and Pole Line Road has not been determined, but may be done by the end of summer.

Further work along the new U.S. 93 route is expected to be completed this summer. A chip seal coat on the asphalt roadway and concrete sealer on the Rock Creek Bridge will be added this summer using the remaining funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The additional work will take place along the 5.5-mile Alternate Route Stage II project between Grandview Drive and the U.S. 93/U.S. 30 junction. The project was started in September 2009 and opened to traffic last December.
