UPDATE: Nampa signal project to finish next week
NAMPA - A project linking traffic signals in and around downtown Nampa to create a more efficient traffic flow is expected to finish next week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The traffic signal synchronization project began in January.
Starting Monday (July 25), crews will work an 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule Monday through Friday to complete the project. Installation should be complete by early August.
The contractor has completed work except for signal poles at 12th and 2nd. Crews did not begin this week on the final work due to inadequate manpower.
The
project allows the signals to be synchronized through fiber optics.
Pedestrian signals, with countdown indicators, also were added at
intersections. Crews finished work on the wireless communication
equipment to allow the city to control signal timing from its traffic
service shop.
The signal improvements mean people who drive the
posted speed through the area should have to make fewer stops for red lights.
Quality Electric Inc., of Boise, is the contractor on this $1.01 million project.
The city of Nampa paid for the design will pay a portion of the construction contract.
The funding breakdown is almost 93 percent federal aid and about 7 percent local funding. ITD is administering the federal-aid funds. No ITD funds are being expended on this off-system project.
