UPDATE: Speed limit to return to 65 mph on eastbound I-84 between Garrity and Meridian; westbound remains 55 mph until finished
MERIDIAN – More good news is in store for eastbound Interstate 84 drivers between Garrity and Meridian on the heels of the opening of four lanes just over a week ago. The speed limit will return to 65 mph on Sunday night (July 24). The Idaho Transportation Department announced that crews finished work on the eastbound side this week, allowing for the change.
The speed limit for the westbound side will remain at 55 mph, however.
Westbound I-84 will be restricted at night starting Sunday. The outside lane will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. while crews remove stripes from the roadway and prepare to open new travel lanes.
A third westbound travel lane will open under the Ten Mile Interchange next week. The lane has been closed for repaving since early July. A fourth travel lane westbound is expected to open between the Meridian and Garrity interchanges by late July or early August.
The westbound speed limit will return to 65 mph when all lanes have been completed.
