Paving in Cascade to occur in summer 2012
VALLEY COUNTY - A project to repave a two-mile section of Idaho 55 through downtown Cascade is scheduled for next summer, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The existing roadway is in poor condition, with cracking and potholing. The resurfacing will repair these deficiencies and extend the life of the highway section.

Part of the resurfacing will use the Cement Asphalt Recycled Base Stabilization (CRABS) method, while part of it will involve a hot-mix process that adds 3-6 inches of new asphalt to the existing roadway base. The base will first be covered with new aggregate.

Originally, the section of gravel road was paved over in 1937. It was reconstructed in 1955, followed by an overlay in 1975. Sealcoats were placed in 1989 and 1993. Minor widening was done in 1996.

The South Payette River Bridge will be replaced in a separate project in 2012 or 2013.

Pedestrian ramps will be upgraded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards in this project. The city of Cascade will also replace storm drain pipes in this project.

From noon on Fridays to 7 a.m. on Mondays, one lane of traffic in each direction must be kept open.  Construction will be prohibited during the Valley County Fair in the second week of August.
