Resurfacing under way on several Pocatello streets

POCATELLO – Resurfacing on several major Pocatello streets will continue through Labor Day and will result in detours for local traffic, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Work began Monday on resurfacing of Garrett Way (U.S. 30) from Hawthorne Street east to Gould Street. From there, the curb-to-curb resurfacing operation will proceed south on the Yellowstone Highway to 4th Ave. and southeast to the Interstate 15 interchange at Exit 67.

The project also incudes resurfacing of 5th Ave. from I-15 to the Yellowstone Highway, in front of the Idaho State University campus. That segment will be done between the end of the summer session and the start of fall semester (Aug. 5 to Aug. 19).

Crews will remove the top 1.5 inches of existing asphalt, clean the surface and apply a new layer of asphalt.

To minimize the impact on local traffic, all construction will be done at night, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Flaggers will direct traffic around the project on marked routes.

Western Construction is the contractor for the $3.1 million project.
