Seal coat project on Idaho 25 and Hagerman Rest Area this week
SHOSHONE – Drivers are reminded to use caution through a seal-coat project in Jerome County later this week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will begin with seal coat and striping of the parking lot at the Hagerman Rest Area on Wednesday (Aug. 3). The project will move to Idaho 25 in Jerome County for about four miles east of the U.S. 93 junction on Thursday. The seal-coat projects will cover the asphalt roadways, which were reconstructed in 2010, and help preserve and extend the life of the surface.
The Hagerman Rest Area will be closed for several hours on Wednesday while crews work and complete the striping. This is the last portion of work following the reconstruction of the restroom facility and parking lot paving started last fall.
On Idaho 25, the operations will restrict the speed of drivers with lane closures and loose gravel. The road will be reduced to one lane in each direction as crews perform the task of coating the roadway with rubberized oil and rock chips. Drivers should watch for flaggers and a pilot car will be used to shuttle traffic through the work zone.
The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph and lane restrictions will be in effect during working hours between 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Speed restrictions will remain in place until loose gravel is swept from the roadway and striping of the project is complete.
Following posted speed limits will reduce the risk of windshield damage caused by the loose gravel. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternative route if possible.
Kloepfer Inc., of Paul, is the contractor for the seal coat projects.
