Paving project on Idaho 75 between Galena and Stanley begins next week

STANLEY – Drivers traveling through the scenic Sawtooth Valley will have a different type of experience over the next couple of weeks as road crews complete a full-width asphalt overlay on Idaho 75 for about 28 miles, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. All work is expected to be complete by September.

Pending an approved asphalt test strip, the contractor will begin work next week performing roadway milling in specified locations followed by paving. Work will begin near Frenchman Creek and continue north to Stanley.

The overlay will fix rutting and potholes, and restore surface smoothness through the valley.

Once paving begins, the operation is expected to last about three weeks. Drivers are asked to slow down, and to watch for bumps on the road and use caution after milling as the grooved surface is uneven.

Drivers are urged to be careful when approaching the work zone and watch for flaggers. A pilot car will be used while crews are present to lead traffic around the milling and paving operations. There will be a reduced speed limit of 45 mph through the work zone.

Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor for the $4.26 million pavement preservation project.
