Construction on Menan Canal Bridge on U.S. 20 north of Rigby begins Monday (Aug. 29)
RIGBY - Construction on the Menan Canal Bridge on U.S. 20 north of Rigby will begin Monday (Aug. 29), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will resurface the deck of the bridge, which is located near milepost 325 south of the new Menan-Lorenzo Interchange.
Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with commercial vehicles restricted to 12 feet in width and to legal weights through the work zone.
The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph during preparation and to 25 mph during concrete placement and curing. The 25 mph speed-limit reduction will last up to 15 days and be enforced around the clock. Reduced speed helps minimize jarring of the deck during cure time, which is essential to concrete stability.
Motorists should watch for merging traffic, construction workers and equipment.
The Menan Canal Bridge is one of five bridges to be resurfaced this summer as part of the transportation department’s annual bridge-preservation program in eastern Idaho. Work on this year's bridge resurfacing projects began July 11.
Bridges completed to date are the South Interchange (Exit 113) on Interstate 15 south of Idaho Falls and the St. Leon Interchange (Exit 311) on U.S. 20 northeast of Idaho Falls.
After resurfacing the Menan Canal Bridge on U.S. 20, which is scheduled for completion in early September, crews will resurface the Sunnyside Interchange (Exit 116) on I-15 south of Idaho Falls and the County Line Interchange (Exit 318) on U.S. 20 northeast of Idaho Falls.
ITD awarded the $582,000 bridge-deck resurfacing contract to Build Inc., of Salt Lake City.
