Micro-seal on Yellowstone and numerous ramps to begin Tuesday (Sept. 6)

POCATELLO - As the stimulus project on Interstate 86 from the Chubbuck Interchange to the Pocatello Creek Interchange nears completion, work to protect the driving surface and extend the life of the new pavement is planned each night for a few nights beginning Tuesday (Sept. 6), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

From 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night from Sept. 6-9, crews will micro-seal the road according to the following schedule:

Tuesday (Sept. 6): Yellowstone Avenue, between Poleline and Burnside roads

During the work, business access from Yellowstone will be closed. However, all businesses affected can be accessed from either Hawthorne Road or Hurley Road. Flaggers will be used.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (Sept. 7-9): I-86 from milepost 60 to the Flying Wye interchange with Interstate 15 (both east and westbound lanes) and these associated ramps:

-  all legs of the Wye interchange ramps;
-  the eastbound on-ramp from Yellowstone to I-86;
-  the westbound off-ramp from I-86 to Yellowstone (exit 61);
-  the newly constructed lane on southbound I-15 from the Wye interchange to the Pocatello Creek Road exit; and
-  the Pocatello Creek Road off-ramp.

At least one lane of the freeway will be open at all times, except the Wye interchange ramps, which will be closed.  Each ramp will be closed for one night only and will have a signed detour in place with portable message boards advising traffic of the closure well in advance of the construction zone. The freeway will be reduced to 55 mph. No pilot cars will be in use.

With completion of the micro-seal, the overall stimulus project will be nearly complete, with only some final clean-up items remaining. These will require occasional lane closures, but the closures will be short in duration.
