Construction on U.S. 20 between north Rexburg and south St. Anthony starts Tuesday (Sept. 6)

RIGBY - Construction on U.S. 20 between north Rexburg and south St. Anthony will begin Tuesday (Sept. 6), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will resurface three miles of northbound U.S. 20 between the north Rexburg interchange (Exit 337) and the Madison-Fremont county line (milepost 340) and six miles of southbound U.S. 20 between the north Rexburg interchange (Exit 337) and the south St. Anthony exit (Exit 344). Construction will be similar to U.S. 20 resurfacing between the south St. Anthony exit 344 and Twin Groves (milepost 350) May 2 to Aug. 12.

During construction, motorists can expect delays. Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. The speed limit in work areas will be reduced to 55 mph. Drivers should anticipate changing driving conditions, such as merging traffic, construction vehicles, highway workers and uneven surfaces.

Crews will start on southbound U.S. 20 at the south St. Anthony exit 344 and work south, with work on northbound U.S. 20 to begin at the north Rexburg interchange (Exit 337) later in the week. The project is scheduled for completion in mid October, with a seal coat planned next summer.

The transportation department awarded Western Construction Inc. of Boise the $5.3 million contract. Contact Jack Snyder of Western at 208-345-1440. The project will strengthen and smooth the roadway for improved durability and riding comfort.
